Gloxinia Emperor Frederick
M6262
Description
Named after the German Emperor and King of Prussia who married Queen Victoria’s daughter, Gloxinia ‘Emperor Frederick’ is a regal addition to your houseplant collection. Resplendent, trumpet-shaped flowers are held in neat bunches above handsome, scalloped foliage. The lavish, deep crimson blooms convey rich splendour, each centring around a delicately speckled throat. The petals are edged with a sparkling white margin, like the ermine fur trimming a royal robe. These majestic blooms are primarily suited to growing indoors, providing a floriferous display for months on end.
Care Guide
Gloxinias are house plants which thrive in a conservatory or on a warm windowsill.
Plant the tubers with the hollow side facing up in pots of moisture retentive compost. Do not fully bury the tuber – leave the top exposed above soil level.
Place pots on a bed of pebbles or stones in a dish for humidity and water regularly from below to avoid rotting or damaging stems and leaves.
Feed every two weeks with high-phosphorus liquid plant food once buds appear in early summer.
The velvety, bell-shaped blooms in rich, vibrant hues will bring botanical charm to your indoor spaces.
