Bletilla Striata Alba
M6082
Description
Despite its delicate, exotic appearance, Bletilla ‘Striata Alba’ is a hardy orchid that will flourish in your garden. Showy white blooms are carried in nodding racemes of up to 10 flowers above broad, ribbed leaves. The frilled lip is softly suffused with a lilac blush and is finely etched with ochre veining. Left undisturbed, the pseudobulbs will readily naturalise, providing attractive, floriferous groundcover for shady spots and pond margins. Easy to grow, Bletilla ‘Striata Alba’ will tolerate down to -7 degrees. If you want to protect your precious orchids from a particularly cold snap, mulch deeply or move indoors until spring.
Care Guide
Bletilla are members of the Orchid family, and as such thrive in a warm and bright, well-drained area. Plant rhizomes 5cm deep, spaced 15cm apart in the soil.
Provide regular watering to maintain soil moisture.
Grass like clumps of foliage produce slender stems of exquisite, scented flowers, rising to graceful heights of 30-40cm in May and June.
Fully hardy and easy to naturalise.
Bletilla will also thrive in shallow containers of loamy soil.
