Tigridia Lilacea
M6793
Description
The breath-taking blooms of Tigrida ‘Lilacea’ sport a trio of large, intensely pink outer petals encircling an elaborately embellished centre. The inner cluster of petals are borne in a hollow cup shape, drawing your eye towards mesmerising maroon markings. Like Daylilies, each individual flower flaunts its finery for a single day and then wanes, to be seamlessly succeeded by a fresh flush of blooms. This continual parade of unfurling buds provides a long-lasting, abundant show. ‘Lilacea’ makes a stunning container display for a sunny patio, conservatory, or greenhouse. Store these half-hardy bulbs in a frost-free location to enjoy their captivating blooms year after year.
Care Guide
Semi-hardy Tigridia should ideally be started off indoors, in a greenhouse in spring. Plant the bulbs in pots of multi-purpose compost with added grit at a depth of 7.5cm below the soil.
Grow undercover for the entire season, or plant out in late spring into a bed of fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Known as Mexican shell flowers, Tigridia look wonderful in groups, providing a colourful summer show.
Provide consistent watering throughout the growing period, ensuring the soil stays moderately moist. Allow the soil to dry out once flowering has finished, before lifting the bulbs in autumn and storing over winter in a frost-free place.
