Pleione Formosana
M6661
Description
Despite its petite stature, the miniature orchid Pleione ‘Formosana’ bears astoundingly showy, eye-catching blooms. With all the exotic appeal of a full-sized orchid, this variety exhibits an ivory, freckled trumpet with a finely frilled edge. The crown is surrounded by a halo of slender, dusky pink petals. This frost-hardy perennial pseudobulb will flourish in a sheltered, lightly shaded position on sharply drained soil. The reliable performance of ‘Formosana’ has earned this plant a coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit. Also known as the ‘windowsill Orchid’, the blooms also make superb specimens for indoor containers, where their intricate features can be admired up close.
Care Guide
These alpine orchids often grow best in the house, conservatory or greenhouse away from cold temperatures and fluctuations. Pots may be brought outdoors into a sheltered, semi-shaded location for summer.
Plant bulbs into a well-drained potting mix, with the tips showing just above the soil surface.
Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season, taking care not to overwater as this will lead to rotting. Allow the soil to dry out completely during a period of rest in the winter.
Apply dilute liquid plant food weekly during spring and summer.
