Polianthes Tuberosa The Pearl Exclusive Offer
CAM41
Description
The Fragrance the Top French Perfumiers Pay a Fortune For.
You start with a bulb which looks nothing special. Dry. Brown. Easy to doubt this is going to produce one of the most in-demand perfumed plants. You plant it once the soil begins to warm, then more or less forget about it until the summer.
At first, green leaves appear. Neat, upright, not very exciting. This is the time you may wonder why there is such a fuss about Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’. If you leave alone and let the weather do its part, stems follow. Buds appear. Then one evening you walk past and notice an astounding fragrance long before you notice the flowers.
This offer is for 12 bulbs of Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’. These 12 sought after bulbs have a retail price with postage of £38.59. Your price WHILST STOCKS LAST is £17.35 with FREE delivery. Less than half-price!
The blooms open white and full, softer than most tuberose. The uplifting scent comes through late in the day and lingers in the air. Now you understand the reason so many gardeners plant near a door, by a path, or close to an open window. Sweet and clean, strong without being too much, you will be asked by friends what this extraordinary fragrance is.
The flowers do not all open together. One bloom is followed by another, over many weeks, which means the plant keeps giving rather than finishing all at once. Cut stems last well indoors and brings the scent into your house. Sun and warmth matter. Drainage matters. In cooler gardens, pots make things easier and more reliable. Feed lightly. Water when dry.
The top French perfumiers extract an oil from the petals to use in their high-end perfumes. Used in tiny quantities, this concentrate is called Tuberose Absolute and costs £12,000 per kilogramme. The official Perfume Industry description of the fragrance produced by Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’ is - rich, intensely floral, creamy, sweet, spice, honey, diffusive and long-lasting… and you are going to have this filling the evening air in your summer garden.
We have Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’ bulbs available now in limited quantities. If you enjoy scented plants and do not mind waiting until summer for the reward, this is one worth planting.
Reserve yours now. Delivery is week commencing the 30th of March – the ideal planting time.
Care Guide
Start bulbs off indoors in spring, in pots of well-drained soil with the addition of good quality compost. Plant bulbs 10 cm deep, spaced 20 cm apart in the soil. Begin watering only when leaves appear, keeping the soil evenly moist during the growing period.
After the risk of frost has passed, usually in late May, pots can be brought outdoors into a warm, sunny location such as a patio where you can enjoy the tubular, fragrant blooms. Feed with liquid fertiliser every two weeks during active growth to encourage flowering and ensure healthy plants.
