Description
Floaty, feathery, sea anemone-like Semi-Cactus Dahlia ‘White Star’ is a textural and elegant plant standing at 100 cm tall, suited to any garden - befitting both contemporary gardens, as well as traditional mixed planting schemes.
A mass of twisting, slim, ivory petals constitute each impressive flower. Bursting forth into bloom from July, and flowering over an exceptionally long season. The ruffled flowerheads of the Semi-Cactus Dahlia 'White Star' are tinted a warm shade of clotted cream towards the centre of each bloom.
This graceful dahlia is also excellent for cutting and adds softness to floral arrangements; especially loved by florists for weddings.
de Jager's cactus dahlias top size, top quality tubers are supplied polythene bags, in which they may be safely kept until planting time, stored in a cool place.
Care Guide
To grow Dahlias, select a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and dig a 30cm deep hole. Plant the tuber 10cm below the soil surface, spacing multiple tubers 45cm apart, or 90cm for taller varieties. Water consistently, maintaining moist but not saturated soil and protect new shoots from slug damage with eco-friendly methods. Feed plants during the blooming period with liquid plant food. Provide support for stems which will reach 60-90cm tall depending on variety. Enjoy spectacular blooms from late summer until first frosts. Cut or deadhead the flowers regularly for a continually flourishing display. Once blooming has finished, cut back foliage before lifting, drying and storing the tubers in peat-free substitute, in a frost-free place until the following spring.
