With brilliant, mandarin-red petals edged by a broad blaze of amber, ‘Darwin Tulip Apeldoorn Elite’ radiates a warm glow to illuminate your spring display. The enormous, long-lasting, egg-shaped blooms are carried on impressively long stems, making them a fantastic cut flower for bouquets and floral arrangements.

These Darwin Hybrids make an eye-catching statement when planted in generous groupings amongst borders and in large containers. tulip ‘Apeldoorn Elite’ has proven its prestigious status with the accolade of an RHS Award of Garden Merit, testament to its reliability and high value in the garden.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
