Achimenes Snow Princess
M5062
Description
A profusion of icy-white, open-faced flowers stream from Achimenes ‘Snow Princess’ from late spring until autumn, illuminated against a backdrop of bushy green foliage.
The delicate looking blooms are sometimes known as Magic Flowers or Cupid’s Bowers, opening out from elongated buds to reveal their exquisite beauty. The Achimenes 'Snow Princess' flowers feature a fine mauve petal outline with pin-dots at their corners, violet throats and glowing yellow eye.
Ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes and summer containers which should be brought undercover before the autumn frosts set in.
Care Guide
Achimenes are low-maintenance perennials, perfect for summer hanging baskets and containers. They are native to Central and South America and are related to African Violets and Gloxinias. For thriving plants, choose a bright, partially shaded location with well-drained soil. Plant tubers 5cm deep and 10cm apart. Ensure soil is consistently moist but not waterlogged and feed with a high potash fertiliser every 10 days during the flowering season (usually May - September). Expect dainty stems to reach 15-30cm in height. Admire a continuous profusion of charming, vibrant blooms, each measuring 3-5cm in diameter, over the summer. Once flowering has finished, remove old growth, lift and overwinter tubers in dry compost in a frost-free place.
