Gladioli Green Star
G4503
Description
A fresh take on a garden and cut-flower classic, Large Flowered Gladioli ‘Green Star’ delivers zingy energy to borders, containers, and arrangements. Like a crisp Granny Smith apple, the zesty, lime-green blooms are lush and refreshing.
This unusual, versatile variety harmonises beautifully with any colour palette. The chartreuse petals provide the perfect counterpoint to dark, velvety hues and brightly coloured blooms; they offer a zingy foil to softer pinks, and blend seamlessly with pure whites.
The linear, structural spires of large flowered gladiolus 'Green Star' bring a contemporary feel and vertical interest. These reliable performers can be planted successionally, to ensure fabulous blooms from July to September growing between 90 - 120 cm tall.
de Jager top quality, top size Gladioli are best grown in fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny spot. Plant the corms a week or two apart throughout spring for a long succession of pretty flowers.
Care Guide
To cultivate Gladioli, choose a sunny site with well-drained, well-manured garden soil. Dig a trench 15cm deep and place the corms 10-15cm apart, covering with soil and ensuring they sit 5cm below the surface. Water regularly, maintaining soil moisture until growth is established, and during hot, dry spells of weather. Stagger planting at two-week intervals to ensure continuous flowering over a long period. Expect stately, colourful spikes reaching 60-90cm in height which many require staking for support. The smaller variety ‘Glamini’ Gladioli will reach a maximum height of 50cm.
