We aim to secure long-term, sustainable growth through strong relationships with customers, suppliers, employees and the communities in which we operate.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
P. de Jager & Sons Limited operates from premises in Pershore. The business supplies garden flower bulbs and undertakes bulb storage, packing and distribution activities from the site.
Our flower bulbs are selected and handled to high quality standards. We seek to source cultivated bulb stocks responsibly and reduce avoidable environmental impacts throughout our operations and supply chain.
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT
1. Environmental Awareness
1.1 Protection of the environment in which we live and operate is an integral part of de Jager’s values and business principles. Care for the environment is a key responsibility and an important part of how we conduct our business.
1.2 We will encourage environmentally responsible practices among employees, customers, suppliers and other organisations with which we work.
2. Policy Commitments
P. de Jager & Sons Limited commits to:
2.1 Complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and approved codes of practice.
2.2 Preventing pollution and minimising adverse impacts on land, air and water.
2.3 Using materials, energy and natural resources efficiently, and keeping waste to a minimum.
2.4 Considering environmental factors during business planning, purchasing, site management and the development of products and services.
2.5 Monitoring environmental performance and setting appropriate objectives for continual improvement.
3. Responsible Water Management
3.1 Rainwater from the roofs at the Pershore premises is collected in a reservoir, filtered and stored for suitable non-potable uses, reducing reliance on mains water and making effective use of natural resources.
3.2 We will support the effective maintenance and use of the rainwater collection system and seek further opportunities to improve water efficiency within our operations.
3.3 Employees will be encouraged to minimise water consumption, supported by suitable information and water-efficient facilities where practicable.
4. Renewable Energy, Heating and Lower-Carbon Travel
4.1 Solar panels at the Pershore premises generate renewable electricity to help power the site. Surplus electricity may be exported to the grid.
4.2 Electric vehicle charging points, supported by solar-generated electricity where available, are provided to make lower-carbon travel easier for staff and visitors.
4.3 The Pershore premises, occupied by de Jager since January 2025, include an 87 kW ground source heat pump serving the offices and packing area.
4.4 The ground source heat pump is estimated to avoid approximately 38.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. We will continue to review energy use and identify practical measures that support progress towards carbon neutrality.
5. Sustainable Packaging and Waste Management
5.1 We aim for packaging used for our flower bulbs to be recyclable wherever practicable, including cardboard boxes and suitable protective materials.
5.2 We will seek to reduce conventional plastic packaging and use recyclable, recycled-content or compostable alternatives where they are suitable for protecting flower bulbs.
5.3 We will favour cardboard and other lower-impact packaging alternatives where they provide suitable protection and performance.
5.4 To avoid unnecessary waste, existing stocks of serviceable packaging will be used responsibly before being replaced with lower-impact alternatives.
5.5 Packaging must protect flower bulbs during storage and delivery, but we will continually seek solutions that reduce material use, increase recycled or renewable content and improve recyclability or compostability.
5.6 Waste paper and other suitable materials will be reused or recycled wherever possible. Waste that cannot be reused or recycled will be handled by authorised waste contractors or disposed of at an appropriate official facility.
6. People, Training and Continual Improvement
6.1 Employees will receive appropriate information and training so that they understand this policy and can work in an environmentally responsible manner.
6.2 Environmental performance, objectives and relevant good practice will be communicated regularly to employees.
6.3 Management processes will be developed and reviewed to ensure environmental and social considerations are taken into account during planning and implementation.
6.4 We will review this policy regularly and update it when there are significant changes to our operations, premises, legal obligations or environmental objectives.
The management team endorses this policy and is fully committed to its implementation.
