Clusters of hot-red, velvet florets will burn brightly in borders during the latter months of summer, along elegant stems of handsome Large Flowered Gladioli ‘Oscar’. This lipstick-red, showy gladioli is an eye-catching choice for a jewel garden and is certain to impress in the vase. 

Combine gladiolus 'Oscar' in the border with luscious burgundy-red perennials such as Dahlia ‘Arabian Night’ and Cosmos ‘Astrosanguineus’ for a luxurious look.

de Jager top quality, top size Gladioli are best grown in fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny spot. Plant the corms a week or two apart throughout spring for a long succession of pretty flowers between July and September.

Care Guide

To cultivate Gladioli, choose a sunny site with well-drained, well-manured garden soil. Dig a trench 15cm deep and place the corms 10-15cm apart, covering with soil and ensuring they sit 5cm below the surface. Water regularly, maintaining soil moisture until growth is established, and during hot, dry spells of weather. Stagger planting at two-week intervals to ensure continuous flowering over a long period. Expect stately, colourful spikes reaching 60-90cm in height which many require staking for support. The smaller variety ‘Glamini’ Gladioli will reach a maximum height of 50cm.

    Decorative Dahlia ‘Happy Go Lucky’ features large blooms of pale salmon-pink with a mix of soft apricot-yellow, and orange-red tips. Plant these 100 cm tall dahlias towards the middle or back of the border for a large sweep of warm peachy and sunny colour.  The flowers will bloom in profusion from July until the first frosts. 

    Looks beautiful growing amongst watermelon-pink shades, rich reds and tall, lush foliage. Decorative Dahlia ‘Happy Go Lucky’ is also excellent as a cut flower, supplying you with ample eye-catching blooms over a prolonged period.
