Nerine Bowdenii Alba
M6532
Description
Invaluable for bringing fresh sparkle to autumn borders, Nerine Bowdenii ‘Alba’ steps into the spotlight just as the season is drawing to a close. Clusters of crisp, luminous white blooms are held on fine stems, with ruffled petals swept back to reveal elegant, elongated stamens. These superb flowers will twinkle like stars amongst your rock garden, herbaceous borders, and container displays. Originating from South Africa, Nerines flourish on well-drained soil in a sunny location, and ‘Bowdenii’ is a remarkably hardy variety. With an impressive vase life, ‘Alba’ will also make a graceful addition to your autumnal floral arrangements.
Care Guide
Nerines can be grown in pots or in the ground. Either way, a sunny location is necessary for these autumn flowering bulbs, ideally against a south-facing wall.
Plant the bulbs in spring 10cm apart into well-drained, fertile soil. Ensure the neck of each bulb sits just above the surface of your soil as this will promote flourishing blooms.
For container planting, use an equal mix of loam based potting compost and multi-purpose compost.
Delicate, lily-like blooms are produced in abundance during September and October. Excellent for cutting.
In colder regions, mulch the area around your plants after flowering to provide winter protection.
Nerines resent root disturbance, so try not to move them once settled. Only lift and divide after several years if flowering begins to diminish.
