Ruffled Gladioli Fire Cracker
G1000
Description
A beacon of scorching scarlet blooms, gladioli ‘Fire Cracker’ will set your summer garden ablaze with colour. The fire-engine red flowers are ideal for planting alongside other ‘hot' hues, and for igniting rich, dark palettes. Reaching a height of up to 100cm, the spires resemble glowing torches amongst borders and containers, radiating warmth and illuminating their surroundings. The gently ruffled petals further enhance the appearance of flickering flames. Gladioli are renowned as outstanding cut flowers, and even just a few of these magnificent stems will create an impressive arrangement. Flowering from July to September, these radiant blooms deliver a sizzling display, no matter the weather.
Care Guide
To cultivate Gladioli, choose a sunny site with well-drained, well-manured garden soil. Dig a trench 15cm deep and place the corms 10-15cm apart, covering with soil and ensuring they sit 5cm below the surface. Water regularly, maintaining soil moisture until growth is established, and during hot, dry spells of weather. Stagger planting at two-week intervals to ensure continuous flowering over a long period. Expect stately, colourful spikes reaching 60-90cm in height which many require staking for support. The smaller variety ‘Glamini’ Gladioli will reach a maximum height of 50cm.
