Description

Bearing the name of the German Kaiser and King of Prussia, Gloxinia ‘Emperor Wilhelm’ is imbued with imperial splendour. Velvety, dark amethyst blooms deepen to an inky-black centre, highlighted by a by a broad, pure white margin. Compact clusters of flowers are held aloft, displayed gloriously above deeply veined, serrated foliage. Originating in Brazil, these sub-tropical plants prefer a consistently warm environment in bright, indirect light: ideal for a windowsill or partially shaded conservatory. Boasting an exceptionally long flowering period, Gloxinia will enhance your home with their petite charm and plush, satiny petals.

Care Guide

Gloxinias are house plants which thrive in a conservatory or on a warm windowsill.

Plant the tubers with the hollow side facing up in pots of moisture retentive compost.  Do not fully bury the tuber – leave the top exposed above soil level.

Place pots on a bed of pebbles or stones in a dish for humidity and water regularly from below to avoid rotting or damaging stems and leaves.

Feed every two weeks with high-phosphorus liquid plant food once buds appear in early summer.

The velvety, bell-shaped blooms in rich, vibrant hues will bring botanical charm to your indoor spaces.
