Crinum Powellii
M6152
Description
Crinum ‘Powelii’ offers an impressive late summer spectacle, with jubilant trumpets of rosy-pink blooms borne in showy umbels. These striking perennials bring height and fragrance to borders and large containers. The eye-catching flowers crown statuesque stems and verdant ribbons of strap-like foliage. Try pairing with other late season bulbs such as crocosmia and nerines for a fantastic finale to summer. Otherwise known as the ‘Cape Lily’, these South African natives enjoy a hot, sheltered, south-facing position. A particularly hardy hybrid, ‘Powelii’ is notable for its vigour and resilience. The prolific blooms provide an abundance of cut flowers for a majestic addition to floral arrangements.
Care Guide
Requires full sun and a sheltered, south-facing location.
Plant the large bulbs with their necks showing above soil level in well-drained, moisture retentive soil, spacing 45cm apart.
Provide consistent watering, ensuring soil stays moderately damp after planting and throughout the growing season.
Large, trumpet-shaped blooms are produced from July to September on straight, strong stems 75-100cm tall.
Mulch with spent compost or straw during winter and avoid disturbing Crinum bulbs once planted.
