Description
The dramatic foliage of Oxalis ‘Triangularis Purpurea’ truly sets this plant apart, creating a striking backdrop to the rose-pink, trumpet-shaped blooms. This remarkable species flaunts heart-shaped, trifoliate leaves of burgundy-black, each adorned with imperial purple markings at the centre. The decorative, nyctinastic leaves provide a captivating spectacle as they awaken with the sun and close at night, opening and shutting like butterfly wings. Oxalis are versatile and multi-purpose – equally well-suited to rock gardens, patio pots, hanging baskets, and borders, they also make stunning houseplants. Care Guide
Oxalis grows best in sun or part shade and are ideal plants for rockeries, containers and borders. They can also be grown indoors in pots in colder regions.
Plant the bulbs in late spring into any well-drained soil, 5cm deep and 10-15cm apart. Add a handful of slow-release fertiliser to the soil or compost if you are growing in pots.
Provide regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist.
Dainty flowers appear any time between April and November above the clover-like leaves.
In very cold regions, the bulbs should be lifted and stored in a frost-free place for winter.
