Description
The tulips gardeners discover when they stop chasing bigger flowers
Most gardeners begin with the biggest tulips they can find. Many of those then arrive at species tulips. Not because they are larger, brighter or more dramatic. Quite the opposite.
As you as a gardener expand your abilities, you stop looking for plants which dominate a border and start looking for plants which make the whole garden knit together. Species tulips do exactly this. Smaller and closer to their wild ancestors, these tulips slip naturally between perennials, beneath deciduous shrubs and into gravel where larger tulips often feel too deliberate.
Our collection brings TEN each of five exceptional varieties: Clusiana 'Cynthia', Humilis 'Persian Pearl', Lilac Wonder, Little Beauty and Turkestanica. FOUR varieties hold the RHS Recommended Award of Garden Merit, a recognition earned through dependable performance in gardens over many years.
10 x Clusians Cynthia. Known as the ‘golden lady tulip’, ‘Clusiana Cynthia’ is a petite, gilded beauty, exuding elegance and style. Flashes of raspberry red and chartreuse green are painted on a buttercup yellow background. Elongated, pointed buds open to fluted, star-shaped blooms on slender stems above fine foliage. RHS Recommended Award of Garden Merit.
10 x Humilis Persian Pearl. A rare and refined gem, the Species tulip ‘Persian Pearl’ will be the jewel in the crown of your early spring display. Opulent, silken, cyclamen purple blooms are streaked with flashes of glistening silver. Perfectly formed, pointed buds burst open to reveal a heart of gold. RHS Recommended Award of Garden Merit.
10 x Lilac Wonder. Discovered growing in breath-taking swathes on the mountains of Crete, Species Tulip ‘Lilac Wonder’ is a sensational Species tulip. Misty lavender petals spread out to form a bowl-shaped star, disclosing a clearly demarcated, bold yellow heart. The perky, playful, diminutive blooms dance above ribbons of glossy foliage. RHS Recommended Award of Garden Merit.
10 x Little Beauty. Growing wild in abundance on the mountains of Turkey, the blooms of Species Tulip ‘Little Beauty’ live up to their name. Radiant petals of cerise pink encircle a feathered, slate blue centre which blurs into a smudged white margin.
10 x Turkestanica. Bearing an astounding 9 or more snow-white flowers per bulb, Tulip Species ‘Turkestanica’ boasts a dramatic, densely packed display. A buttercup yellow core glows beside the surrounding, immaculate white petals which feature a green and bronze flush to the exterior. A supremely elegant heirloom tulip for incorporating into containers, rockeries, borders, and lawns. RHS Recommended Award of Garden Merit.

Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
