Tulip Species Praestans Shogun
T1018
Description
Tulip Species ‘Praestans Shogun’ brings invaluable spring cheer with joyful, marigold yellow petals flecked with saffron orange. These early birds burst with energy – one of the first to herald the warmer days of spring, this botanical tulip produces prolific blooms, opening its petals fully in the sunshine.
Accentuated by strapping, blue-green leaves, these multi-headed lemon drops are a wonderful addition to your borders, rockeries, containers, and lawns. Monty Don of ‘Gardeners’ World’ chose tulip ‘Praestans Shogun’ to plant in naturalising drifts along his ‘Cricket Lawn’ and expressed delight at their early, abundant display.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
