Lily Flowering Tulip Fire Wings
T1779
Description
Voracious and vibrant, aptly named Lily Flowering Tulip ‘Fire Wings’ is not for the faint of heart, but certainly a tulip to make an impression, adding character and colour to the garden in spring.
Blooming in an elegant, lily-flowered shape, the flowers feature flame-like markings of rich yellow and fire-engine red.
Combine tulip ‘Fire Wings’ with a tonal flower palette of reds, oranges and yellows for a vivid yet harmonious look, or plant with deep and rich purple shades to intensify the colours.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
