Small Flowered Hippeastrum Rapido
M5540
Description
The smooth stems of miniature Hippeastrum ‘Rapido’ bear clusters of lily-shaped, bright crimson-red flowers during winter.
South African native Hippeastrum bulbs are often referred to as Amaryllis and are bred to flower indoors during the cooler months; often used to bring a splash of colour into the home over the festive season. Grow alongside larger blooming varieties such as Hippeastrum ‘Ferrari’ to create a wonderfully layered and luxurious look for a natural Christmas display.
Each bulb will produce up to 3 stems, holding up to 5-6 delightful, trumpet-shaped exotic blooms.
de Jager's top quality, top size bulbs really make a huge difference in terms of flowering.
Care Guide
Before planting soak lower part of bulb and roots in warm water for a few hours. Hippeastrum bulbs should flower approximately six to eight weeks after planting and are best planted between October and January.
Use a peat-free John Innes No.2 or multipurpose compost and choose a pot just slightly larger than the bulb. Position the bulb with roughly one-third exposed above the compost surface. Place pots in a bright warm room at approximately 21°C (70°F) to encourage strong growth. Water lightly at first, increasing gradually once leaves begin to appear. Keep the compost lightly moist but never waterlogged, and avoid leaving excess water in saucers.
Turn the pot regularly so the flower stem develops evenly towards the light, and support taller varieties if needed. Once the flowers open, moving the plant to a cooler room around 15–18°C (60–65°F) will help extend the display and keep blooms looking fresh for longer.

Collection 2
SFC12
A classic trio of soft pink, blue, and fresh white Hyacinths - perfect for adding colour and perfume to indoor spaces during winter.
These specially prepared bulbs have been treated to flower earlier than they would outdoors in spring and can be timed to bloom in the home for Christmastime.
In early autumn, these bulbs should be planted shallow, in your favourite containers and in pots of bulb compost or placed in a hyacinth vase above the water. Then store in a cool, dark place until the beginning of December when they can be brought out into the light.
Bud-loaded stems will rapidly elongate, before bursting into bloom and releasing a wonderful fragrance into the air from their tiny, frilled bells.
Hyacinth 'Delft Blue’ has been granted a prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the RHS for their exceptional beauty and reliable qualities.
3 x Hyacinth White Pearl, 3 x Hyacinth Delft Blue and 3 x Hyacinth Pink Pearl.

Polychroma
T1005
Like a perfectly formed little quail’s egg, Tulip Species ‘Polychroma’ delights with its milky white petals and buttercup yellow centre. Neat, pointed buds remain firmly shut at night, and gradually unfurl as the day brightens. Opening fully into broad, star-shaped blooms, these botanical tulips seem to drink in the sunlight to store within their golden centre.
This low-growing variety, tulip 'Polychroma' is ideally suited to rockeries, containers, edging borders and dotting amongst lawns, where they will naturalise liberally. Multiple flower heads emerge from one bulb, providing an impressive display even within a smaller space.

Paul Scherer
T1384
Exhibiting dramatic, moody, maroon-black blooms with a plush, velvet gleam, Mid Season Tulip ‘Paul Scherer’ is a tulip worth making room for. This mid-season variety will be a real talking-point in any garden, with its incredible, Gothic, ebony petals set off by grey-green foliage. Maximise the breath-taking effect of their pitch-black colouring by planting in dramatic swathes, or use them as bold punctuation marks dotted throughout contrasting colour schemes.
The tall, sturdy stems make stylish cut flowers, adding an air of mystery to floral arrangements and bouquets. Tulip ‘Paul Scherer’ has earned the accolade of an RHS Award of Garden Merit, proving itself to be both impressive and reliable.
