Description

The velvety violet blooms of Darwin Tulip 'Purple Pride’ will make a majestic addition to your spring display, adding its rich, saturated hues to borders and containers. This is the first Darwin Hybrid to be successfully bred with purple petals, providing an additional colour option for your planting schemes.

Tulip ‘Purple Pride’ also shares the exceptional qualities of the other darwinii tulips – monumental flower heads are carried on mighty stems, held upright with a regal bearing. Create single-colour drifts for striking impact or try clever colour combinations of tonal pinks or contrasting oranges to make the most of this impressive new arrival.

Care Guide

October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.

Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade.  Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.

After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
