With multi-layered petals of multi-tonal pinks, the soft, silken blooms of Early Double ‘Foxtrot’ range from pale peach blossom through to deep rose. The classic ballroom dance of the same name is characterised by smooth, flowing movements: likewise, this tulip brings effortless poise and grace to your garden.
Blessed with all the lavish beauty of a peony, this Double Early variety has the advantage of an immediate, floriferous display at the beginning of spring. Sturdy stems, large blooms and a compact habit make tulip ‘Foxtrot’ ideal for window boxes, containers and edging borders.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
