Description

The best plants improve things you already own.

A garden can contain hundreds of flowers and still feel short of interest.

The problem is rarely colour.

The problem is attention.

The eye settles into familiar routes. Borders perform their role. Shrubs become part of the background. Fences, arches and trellis panels exist without being noticed.

Then a plant changes the pattern.

This is what appealed to us about this collection of three RHS Chelsea multiple gold-medalist Raymond Evison’s clematis…and may I add, a fellow Royal Warrant holder.

Most years, de Jager does not offer plants at all. We focus on quality bulbs. Every so often, however, we come across something which earns its place alongside our curated bulbs.

This collection contains three established clematis plants: one each of Florida Alba Plena, Diamantina and Empress.

Florida Alba Plena - Most double clematis seek attention through colour. Florida Alba Plena takes a different approach. The creamy green-white flowers bring contrast and calm, creating a pause among stronger shades. The unusual double centres reward closer inspection, while the long flowering season ensures it remains part of the garden's conversation for months rather than weeks.

Diamantina is a plant which reveals itself in stages. Rounded buds build anticipation before opening into layers of mauve, purple and soft pink. The effect changes as each flower matures, giving the plant a sense of movement through the season. Diamantina turns a fence, arch or trellis into something worth revisiting.

Empress defines its part of the garden. The large pink double flowers and intricate central rosettes bring presence to walls, trellises and containers, drawing the eye from a distance and holding attention up close. The result is not simply colour, but a structure in the garden which feels purposeful and complete.

Their fully double flowers are what set these apart.

The result is not simply more flowers.

It is a more interesting garden.

Flowering from May into September and often October, these varieties continue performing long after many plants have finished their annual display. Raymond Evison's breeding work has also helped remove much of the uncertainty which once discouraged gardeners from growing clematis.

Supplied as established plants in 7cm pots, this collection has an RRP of £33.

Our price is £24, a saving of 27%.

As these are established living plants rather than dormant bulbs, they require individual, careful, nursery handling, packing and delivery. A postage charge of £5.95 therefore applies to this collection.

We secured fewer than 200 collections for this offer. Order now whilst stocks last.

Care Guide

Plant your Cyclamen in a shaded location, in well-drained, rich soil.

Prefers shallow planting, 5 cm deep, spaced 15 cm apart in the soil.  Provide moderate watering, keeping the soil consistently moist.  Avoid waterlogging.

Delicate stems of dainty, upswept blooms rise to heights of 10-15 cm from a bed of heart-shaped attractive foliage.  Flowering period depends on particular variety.

After planting, leave undisturbed to settle and naturalise.  Blooms may not appear until the second season.
