Their loose clusters of dangling flowers hang from fine stems, turning and moving through the border instead of holding themselves in one solid shape. They are a world away from the great purple globes which have made Alliums so familiar.

You do not need to make room for the effect. You can let them lace through what is already there. Plant amongst perennials. Let them emerge between established favourites. Repeat small groups along a border so the same distinctive flower form appears again - first in pink, then white, then yellow.

Allium carinatum ssp. pulchellum x 5 is a graceful clump-forming perennial producing loose clusters of violet-pink star-shaped flowers on slender, arching stems through July and August. The delicate blooms of pulchellum bring movement and light texture to sunny borders, gravel gardens, and naturalistic planting schemes, where they mix beautifully among grasses and late-summer perennials. Allium carinatum ssp. pulchellum ‘Album’ x 5 produces elegant sprays of pure white, star-shaped flowers held on slender stems above narrow grey-green foliage through midsummer. The flowers on ‘Album’ bring lightness and movement to sunny borders, gravel gardens, and naturalistic planting schemes, where the crisp white flowers contrast beautifully against green foliage and ornamental grasses. Allium flavum x 5 Mediterraneum Allium flavum is an unusual and prize-winning cultivar, producing loose umbels of delicate, lemon-yellow bells during the summer months. A wonderfully distinctive variety which is perfect for adding pops of colour and interest to borders and large containers with sparkler-like, zesty blooms. Rare beauty, Allium flavum, has been granted an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS for its charming looks and perennial qualities.

These particular alliums are supplied with part of their dry stems attached. This is deliberate. Allowing the stems to dry down on this type of allium helps their necks seal as they enter dormancy.
