Description

Like a stick of striped seaside rock, the Species tulip ‘Clusiana Peppermintstick’ brings a sense of childlike, nostalgic delight. Eye-catching petals unfurl with an inner layer of cool white, enveloped by a band of cerise pink. Opening to a broad star on a sunny day, this animated botanical tulip bobs above fine, grass-like foliage.

These bicolour blooms enliven container displays, borders, and lawns, where the bulbs will naturalise readily. This vigorous variety has earnt itself the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its impressive, consistently reliable performance. Appearing mid-April, tulip ‘Peppermintstick’ offers a sweet treat early in the season.

Care Guide

October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.

Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade.  Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.

After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
