Kaufmanniana Tulip Shakespeare
T1068
Description
Kaufmanniana Tulip ‘Shakespeare’ is a distinct and beautifully coloured variety, producing elegant blooms with carmine-red outer petals softly edged in salmon. Inside, the flowers of tulip ‘Shakespeare’ open to glowing salmon tones flushed with scarlet, surrounding a bright golden-yellow base that shines in spring sunlight.
Free-flowering and compact in habit, this striking early tulip is perfect for borders, containers, rockeries, and smaller garden spaces where its rich colouring and beautifully detailed blooms can be fully appreciated.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
