Exquisitely attired in a gown of sultry pink flamed with deep magenta, Mid Season Tulip ‘Pretty Princess’ has stepped straight from the pages of a fairy-tale ball. Originating from the renowned ‘Princes Irene’, this regal Triumph tulip is a worthy successor.
The bi-coloured blooms are mirrored by a backdrop of distinctive, variegated foliage trimmed with an ivory ribbon. A wonderful centrepiece for the front of your borders and container displays, tulip ‘Pretty Princess’ further delights the senses with the bonus of a sweet scent. Snip a few stems to bring indoors to fill your home with fragrance and colour.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
