May Flowering Tulip Menton
T1681
Description
Floral designer’s favourite ‘Menton’ has long been a top may-flowering tulip for cutting. The long, graceful stems and huge oval flowerheads make it perfect for arranging in seasonal bouquets and displays and the soft colours are timelessly fashionable. China-rose petals with suffused apricot-orange edges mature to pale coral as the blooms age.
Long-lasting both in the garden and as a cut flower.
Excellent garden performance and enviable looks have won tulip ‘Menton’ an Award of Garden Merit as a mark of excellence from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
