Fosteriana Tulip Sweetheart
T1128
Description
The delectable blooms of Fosteriana Tulip ‘Sweetheart’ look fit to be displayed in the window of a patisserie – like luscious lemon tarts piped with a meringue swirl, the zesty yellow petals are edged by sugar white feathering. Although not edible, these tulips are certainly a visual treat.
The sherbet blooms make an invigorating addition to borders and containers, appearing early in the season to pep up your spring display. As cut flowers, they make a delightful Easter bouquet or floral arrangement. This tulip 'Sweetheart' is robust and vigorous despite its delicate appearance, with a long flowering window and a perennial habit.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
