Ixia Venus
M5695
Description
Named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, the gorgeous blooms of Ixia ‘Venus’ are sure to steal your heart. Delivering a burst of glorious, vivid colour, lipstick magenta petals centre around a contrasting, plum-purple heart. The flowers float in generous clusters on wiry, almost invisible stems. Originating from Africa, these tender corms prefer free-draining soil in a warm, frost-free location. This variety is perfect for rock gardens, edging sunny borders, and filling patio container displays. Ixia ‘Venus’ makes a wonderful cut flower, bringing a touch of romance to the room with its long-lasting, fuchsia pink blooms.
Care Guide
As members of the Iris family, Ixia thrive in a sunny spot in well-drained soil which is rich in organic matter.
South African Ixia can also be grown in a cool greenhouse or conservatory.
Plant corms 5cm deep, spaced 8-10cm apart in the soil. A mix of compost, leaf mould and sharp sand provides an ideal growing medium for pot grown plants.
Protect from east and northerly winds and ensure soil never becomes waterlogged as this may lead to rotting.
Lift the bulbs in autumn, allowing them to dry out for a day or two before storing in a cool, dry place until the following spring.
