Greigii Tulip Cape Cod
T1202
Description
Like watching a spectacular sunset over the sea, ‘Cape Cod’ offers an astonishing display of colour. This tulip owes its name to a peninsula in the US, famous for its stretches of sandy beach, lobster rolls, and its easy-going vibe. Echoing the best attributes of its namesake, the ‘Cape Cod’ tulip is characterised by lobster red petals fading to apricot, fringed by a flicker of sunshine yellow. These vibrant blooms are underpinned by fascinating foliage, with grey-green leaves streaked with dark purple veining. This compact variety is ideal for adding a bright pop of colour to containers and along the front of your borders.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
