Allium Purple Rain
M5035
Description
Huge flowerheads, up to 15cm across adorn slender straight stems on glamorous Allium ‘Purple Rain’.
A cross between Purple Sensation and Christophii, this dazzling cultivar has inherited the best qualities of both parents with an abundance of violet florets arranged in an interesting, open structure. Allium ‘Purple Rain’ has received a prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the RHS.
Tall stems make this variety excellent for cutting and using fresh in summer arrangements, and for drying and displaying as architectural seedheads.
Buds rocket up through the borders in late spring and burst into bloom during May and June.
Bulbs look best grouped together near the middle or back of the border for a striking and colourful display.
Care Guide
Plant in rich, well-drained soil. Larger bulbs should be planted 10 cm deep and the smaller ones 5 cm deep; they may be left undisturbed for many years.
