Early Double Tulip ‘Abba’ produces glowing tomato-red double blooms richly flamed with deeper cardinal-red tones, creating a bold and dramatic spring display. Flowering early in the season, the fragrant flowers of tulip ‘Abba’ bring warmth, colour, and luxurious texture to borders, containers, and patio pots when the garden is just beginning to awaken.
The densely layered petals create a full peony-like appearance that stands out beautifully in mass plantings and seasonal arrangements. Reliable and eye-catching, this vibrant variety delivers an energetic burst of spring colour with excellent garden impact.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
