Description

Stunning burgundy-red almost black blooms initiate a dramatic, elegant effect in your garden. Large Flowered Gladioli 'Black Surprise' brings depth and richness, perfect for striking displays, producing multiple velvety blooms from July to late September.

Tall flower spikes provide sophistication, making this large flowered gladiolus 'Black Surprise' an excellent choice for adding contrast, beauty, and timeless appeal to summer borders and floral arrangements. Grows to a height of 90 - 100 cm.

de Jager top quality, top size Gladioli are best grown in fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny spot.  Plant the corms a week or two apart throughout spring for a long succession of pretty flowers.

Care Guide

To cultivate Gladioli, choose a sunny site with well-drained, well-manured garden soil. Dig a trench 15cm deep and place the corms 10-15cm apart, covering with soil and ensuring they sit 5cm below the surface. Water regularly, maintaining soil moisture until growth is established, and during hot, dry spells of weather. Stagger planting at two-week intervals to ensure continuous flowering over a long period. Expect stately, colourful spikes reaching 60-90cm in height which many require staking for support. The smaller variety ‘Glamini’ Gladioli will reach a maximum height of 50cm.
