Fringed, fiery red petals with jagged tips create an untamed flame-like effect. Large blooms open wide during April and May, holding strong on sturdy stems. Darwin Tulip Leo is ideal for borders needing drama.
Benefits from full sun and a sheltered spot. Unmissable when grouped.
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade.
Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
