Tulip Species Turkestanica
T1011
Description
Bearing an astounding 9 or more snow-white flowers per bulb, ‘Turkestanica’ boasts a dramatic, densely packed display. A buttercup yellow core glows beside the surrounding, immaculate white petals which feature a green and bronze flush to the exterior. A supremely elegant heirloom tulip for incorporating into containers, rockeries, borders, and lawns.
This is the ultimate variety for naturalising into drifts of dancing blooms. Particularly remarkable for its equally attractive seed-heads, which scatter freely to expand the show even further. The RHS has conferred an Award of Garden Merit upon ‘Turkestanica’ in acknowledgement of the reliability it offers in the garden.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
