Description

According to Persian legend, tulips sprang from drops of blood shed in the name of love, hence the blooms have long been a symbol of ardour and devotion. The tulip ‘Love Song’ burns with passionate, fiery red, flushed by hues of carmine and copper. Plump buds open into bowl-shaped blooms, revealing an inner heart of gold and gilded edges to each petal. Beneath bobbing flower heads, the broad foliage is streaked with decorative maroon markings. This early bloomer will ignite your display in containers, rockeries, and along the edges of borders. ‘Love Song’ is a serenade to the beginning of spring.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
