Description

Bursting onto the scene in a flash of joyous colour, ‘Stresa’ is one of the first tulips to appear, blooming alongside crocuses and narcissi. Dazzling canary-yellow flowers are stamped with broad flares of pillar-box red, accompanied by handsome, delicately marbled foliage. Pointed buds show off the decorative underside to each petal, before opening fully in the sunshine with beaming, golden faces. ‘Stresa’ makes a bold accent for window boxes, containers, rockeries, and at the front of borders. This stand-out variety boasts the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit for its proven performance and high value in the garden.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
