Description

Originally bred for the World Tulip Summit as a symbol of universal peace and kinship, the primrose blooms of ‘World Friendship’ offer a sense of harmony and tranquillity. Whether planted in swathes throughout borders or dotted amongst containers, these Darwin Hybrids provide a gentle glow like a ray of pale dawn sunlight. The stupendous flower heads are secured by long stems which are steadfast even in wind and rain. These charming tulips make wonderful cut flowers: celebrate the wonder of ‘World Friendship’ by presenting loved ones with a bouquet of these blooms to show them that you care.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
