Mid Season Tulip Passionale

(inc. 20.0% VAT)

The meaning of ‘Passionale’ is ‘passionate’, and this is certainly a tulip to inspire feelings of ardour. Prized for its lustrous, amethyst petals framed by a band of deeper purple, the neat blooms flare outwards to give a curvaceous contour. As the flowers relax and open in the sunshine, you may glimpse the sulphur yellow anthers peeping out from the centre. This marvellous, mid-season variety lends its rich opulence to borders, container displays and floral arrangements. In recognition of its superior quality and reliability, ‘Passionale’ has been granted the honour of an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
