May Flowering Tulip ‘Caravelle’ produces rich ruby-red blooms that deepen towards the petal edges, creating a glowing, glass-like effect in the late spring sunshine. The elegant flowers of tulip ‘Caravelle’ stand tall and open on strong stems, bringing warmth, depth, and refined colour to borders and seasonal planting schemes throughout May.
Best grown in full sun with well-drained soil, this striking variety offers a classic tulip tone with unusual clarity and richness. Ideal for adding bold yet sophisticated colour to beds, containers, and mixed spring displays.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
