May Flowering Tulip Kingsblood
T1679
Description
Tulip ‘Kingsblood’ produces deep cherry-red blooms edged in scarlet on long, strong stems throughout May.
This seductive tulip has been granted a respected Award of Garden Merit by the RHS for its sophisticated looks and excellent, long-lasting performance. May-floweing ‘Kingsblood’ is also wonderful for cutting and adding to flower arrangements and bouquets.
Combine with pink tones in the border, pot or vase for a romantic look, or mix with dark, sultry purples for drama.
Care Guide
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
