Description

Tulip ‘Mount Tacoma’ is full of beauty and grace, yet is surprisingly tough and sturdy, unbothered by late spring rain and winds.

Green and pink buds open fully in April and May to flaunt multiple layers of pure-white, ruffled petals. The large blooms are extremely long-lasting and make fabulous cut flowers, often mistaken for paeonies.

A classic favourite, paeony-flowering tulip ‘Mount Tacoma’ pairs well with the marshmallow-pink tones of ‘Angelique’ and lemony ‘Avant Garde’ for a fresh-looking display.

Care Guide

October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.

Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade.  Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.

After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
