Early Double Tulip Verona
T1246
Description
Named after the beautiful Italian city which forms the backdrop to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, ‘Verona’ is a romantic Early Double variety to inspire similar feelings of adoration. Just as Romeo describes Juliet as his ‘sun’, the clear, pale-yellow petals of this tulip shine like dawn light streaming through a window. With ruffled layers of lemon chiffon, this bloom also offers a beguiling, citrus scent. These tulips will bring their soft, sensuous charm to your window boxes, containers, and flowers beds. The course of true love never did run smooth, but the sturdy stems of ‘Verona’ make it robust even in tempestuous weather.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
