Colchicum Luteum
C2015
Description
Colchicum Luteum is unusual and eye-catching, this summer performer sends up canary-yellow blooms surrounded by deep green foliage.
The spectacular flowers bloom several to each bulb and are wonderful for naturalising in a sunny or semi-shaded position, in well-drained soil. Large, flat leaves appear in spring, before fading in late summer to reveal clusters of ruffled, bright yellow flowers topping bare stems.
Commonly known as autumn crocus, or naked ladies, free-flowering Colchicum Luteum bloom during September and October and are adored by pollinators.
Petals stand proud, glossy and weather-resilient. A rare delight among colchicums, turning warm months into a golden affair. Brilliant in borders or scattered among grasses for an unexpected splash.
Care Guide
No leaves are present when the wine-glass shaped flowers appear, and the long tubes at the base of the petals extend down into the earth.
Plant 7.5 cm deep in well-drained, humus-rich soil, 10-15 cm apart. Likes a sunny or lightly shaded position.
