Dichelostemma Congestum
M5293
Description
Perfect for introducing a wild, airy look into the garden, Dichelostemma ‘Congestum’ produces pretty umbels of long-lasting, lavender-blue blooms on strong, wiry stems up to 60cm tall. The nectar-rich flowers bloom during June and July and are a magnet for bees and butterflies. Grass-like foliage fades just before the flowers appear.
Sometimes known as ‘ookow’, this North American native is related to the wild hyacinth and thrives in well-drained soil – ideal for rockeries, hot, sunny borders and prairie planting schemes.
Grow with perennial grasses, Alliums, Achillea and Perovskia for a tonal, textural combination, full of movement and early summer colour.
Care Guide
An unusual plant producing umbels of tubular flowers on strong stems.
Plant 5cm (2”) deep, 10cm (4”) apart. Prefers a sheltered sunny spot in well-drained soil.
