The impeccable, angelic blooms of Mid Season Tulip ‘Royal Virgin’ have an aura of peaceful purity, creating a sense of serene tranquillity in your planting schemes. Delicate alabaster petals beam with a luminous glow. These classically shaped tulips are the epitome of refinement, creating an understated display of ethereal beauty.
A favourite for planting en-masse like a pristine blanket of snow, tulip ‘Royal Virgin’ will also provide a glinting highlight amongst other spring bulbs in pots and borders. These sturdy stems make sublime cut flowers to adorn your home, and the demure blooms blend well with a wide range of colour palettes.
October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.
Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.
After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
