Allium Sphaerocephalon
M5018
Description
Egg-shaped blooms bob in the summer breeze on eye-catching Allium ‘Sphaerocephalon’.
The compact ‘drumstick’ flowerheads rise up from the soil in late spring, enlarging in size until stems reach a final height of around 60cm tall. A fascinating transformation of colour takes place as the blooms mature, changing from bluish green to two-toned purple-crimson and green in a striking ombre effect. By the end of the flowering season in late summer, the maroon flowers have loosened up and are humming with bees.
Known as the round-headed leek, Allium ‘Sphaerocephalon’ is a popular, reliable variety which holds an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS.
Fabulous in gravel gardens, structured contemporary schemes and traditional borders.
