Description

Tulip ‘Dordogne’ is the recipient of a prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the RHS, and it is easy to see the reason when you observe the spectacular blooms in late spring.

These French tulips feature impressively large, goblet-shaped flowers in warm shades of tropical colour. Tangerine petals are flushed with rich raspberry-pink, and the heart of these exquisite blooms seems to have a fiery red glow as the petals unfold in the heat of the sun.

Long stems and an extended vase life make May-flowering tulip ‘Dordogne’ brilliant for cutting.

Care Guide

October to November are the optimum months for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring.

Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade.  Plant the bulbs 10-20 cm deep, spaced 10-20 cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area.

After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
