Dichelostemma Ida-Maia
M5291
Description
Unusual and exotic Dichelostemma ‘Ida-Maia’ is a wonderful plant to bring punchy colour and interesting texture to the front of a garden border or large feature container. Loose clusters of tubular crimson flowers with reflexed, lime-green tips and a ruffle of cream, dangle from stems up to 60cm tall.
Known as the ‘Californian Firecracker’, this surprisingly hardy plant thrives in a sunny position and is tolerant of poor soils, making it a brilliant choice for prairie planting and dry, gravel gardens.
Flowers appear during June and July and are highly attractive to bees and pollinators.
Care Guide
An unusual plant producing umbels of tubular flowers on strong stems.
Plant 5cm (2”) deep, 10cm (4”) apart. Prefers a sheltered sunny spot in well-drained soil.
